Downtown Durham Walking Tour

Tuesday 10/2 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., $30 per person

A walking tour of downtown Durham will be held on Tuesday morning, October 2, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at in the lobby of the Crowe Building at the American Tobacco Campus. This tour will include the history of the American Tobacco complex, the evolution of Durham as a tech hub, the history of Black Wall Street, and current issues facing the city as it grows and grapples with issues such as gentrification and increased wealth disparities. Special attention will be paid to innovative financing models used to fund redevelopment projects in the area. The tour will finish at Bull City Burger & Brewery, the world's first certified B-Corp brewpub, where lunch will be served.

Food Systems Finance Tour

Thursday 10/4 1:00-4:00 p.m., $40 per person

A bus tour of east Durham will be held on Thursday afternoon, October 4, leaving at 1:00 p.m. from the conference venue. This tour will kick off at the Latino Community Credit Union, where the So Good Pupusas truck will be serving lunch. From there, we’ll visit Epiphany Malt before moving on to the ECO Hub where Firsthand Foods and Eastern Carolina Organics are co-located. Lunch and transportation are included.

The Croatan Institute will be hosting a private, pre-conference roundtable discussion on Racial Equity, Economics, Finance, and Sustainability on Monday, October 1 from 2-5:30 pm. Discussion items will include strategies to increase diversity among finance professionals, methods to strengthen racial equity as an ESG investing screen, and potential research that could be conducted to further understand the impact of racial equity issues in investing.
